Google Hangouts transition to 720p HD video

Google's Vice President Chee Chew told tech news site GigaOm that the inter company would be phasing out the H.264 video codec feature in Google Hangouts to a more high-definition video feature. VP8, announced in 2010, can push out 720p HD videos on Hangouts. Hangouts is Google's instant message and video chat platform that was launched in May of this year.

According to tech news blog CNet, Google also told GigaOm that it has been planning to switch to WebRTC standard in the near future. WebRTC is said to enable to deliver audio and video in real-time without extra plugins. 

Google stock fell 0.19% Wednesday to USD848.55. The company stock also experienced a lot activity in options trading, with investors acquring 12,645 call options on the internet company's stock, which is a record at 338% spike.
