Correction: Clarified the second paragraph's conent as to the definition of Couchbase as an independent open source project.

NoSQL database startup Couchbase raised USD25 million in Series D funding round. The amount raised from the funding round would be for development of the software product's features and expansion to Indian, Chinese and South American markets. Adam Street Partners led the round, where existing investors Mayfield Fund, Accel Partners Ignition Partners and North Bridge venture Partners also participated.

Couchbase is an independent open source project influenced by the Apache CouchDB and memcached open source projects. The product is available in community and enterprise editions. The software has a higher adoption rate than most NoSQL startups because of its strategic evaluations.

The company recently claimed that its customer base has increased sharply, and sales climbed 400% annually from inception. However, it has yet to gain visibility like its rival MongoDB,  of which the latter had been endorsed by IBM. Couchbase has raised USD56 million in total capital.
