WaterSmart Software said that it scored USD 4.5 million in its Series A round. The Westly Group led the funding round, also participated by Physic Ventures, Apsara Capital and Draper Fisher Jurvetson. WaterSmart Software is a company that provides customer engagement solutions for water utility providers. Their cloud-based software allows water utilities to teach consumers about water conservation. As part of the transaction, Steve Westly of the Westly Group would be joining the Board of Directors of WaterSmart.

WaterSmart Founder and Chief Executive Officer Peter Yolles said, "This infusion of capital will help WaterSmart build on the success of the last year and bring our cloud-based customer engagement software to more water utilities across the country." Through their technology, water utility firms had been proven to increase customer engagement three times. The software was also said to lower water demand among residential users by 5% in six months.

WaterSmart has partnered with water utility providers throughout California, Colorado and Texas. It also has contracts with East Bay MUD, Irvine Ranch Water District, and the Cities of Sacramento, Davis and Newport Beach, among others.
