Today, Canva launched a tool that the company had hoped would help people create and collaborate on design online. The service offered by Canva makes use of easy-to-use drag and drop interface. This would allow users to access over millions of photographs, fonts and graphics. The company had also aimed to influence mainstream users who do not see themselves as designers.

The development of the company's technology had been going on for about a year. It had also received a total of USD3 million in seed funding. The investment came from Matrix Partners, 500 Startups and InterWest Partners, among other various angels.

The idea of Canva came from the previous businesses of its CEO, Melanie Perkins. In a statement, Perkins explained, "We always knew that the technology we developed was much more powerful than just the yearbook market." "We draw a line in the sand, and we don't do things like logo design or things that require a lot of fine-tuned pixel manipulation but what designers can do is upload that content, and then do the layout design in Canva," she also added.
