Samsung Electronics Ltd is launching its new gadget, the "Galaxy Gear" smartwatch. Samsung has scheduled to unveil Galaxy Gear during the International Franchise Association's industrial exhibition in a few weeks in Berlin.

Samsung's promotion of their new product created a buzz online. Techies are debating on whether Samsung's smartwatch would be able to live up to their expectations. Anticipating its uses, rumors have circulated on what the Galaxy Gear would be like and its potential use to consumers. Initial reports hinted of a gadget that allows users to make calls, access emails and surf the net. Others implied that the gadget would be used as a device to access smartphones using Bluetooth technology. Many other techies have put in their guesses on what the Galaxy Gear would be.

The concept of the smartwatch is nothing new. Microsoft released its own version way back in 2003. Sony has devices like it already in the market.

Phil Libin, CEO of Evernote, an app developer company told GigaOM that despite the recent development of the smartwatch, it still remains experimental.  "None of this is going to be super mainstream in six or 12 months, but I think it's going to be in the next two or three years," Libin said. "It's going to go faster than people expect."

Samsung until now has declined to make any statements regarding their new gadget.
