Facebook hired Gary Briggs, Motorola Mobility's former chief marketer, to be the social networking site's first ever chief marketing officer. He would replace Facebook's vice president of product marketing, Eric Antonow, who managed the marketing efforts of the corporation since 2010.

Briggs was Google's vice president of consumer marketing. When Google finalized its US$12.5 billion purchase of Motorola Mobility in May 2012, Google appointed Briggs to lead Motorola's marketing strategies. He also worked in various positions in companies like eBay, PepsiCo, PayPal and Plastic Jungle.

Briggs was hired to be the lead in Facebook's branding and marketing efforts. He would supervise the teams that were responsible for platform marketing as well as events, product promotion, content strategies and communication designs. However, the worth of his contract with Facebook was not disclosed.

"Facebook isn't just a company. For more than a billion people, it's their connection to the friends and things they care about most. Telling the story of such an important and still very young brand is an incredible opportunity, and I cannot wait to get started," Briggs said.

Facebook's stock increased more than 40% since the start of the year which resulted to a market value of almost US$100 billion. With the cash that the company currently possesses, it could really hire anyone from any tech giant.
