Facebook, a social networking titan, said it paid more than US$1 million to security researchers within the last two years. The researchers reported about bugs on the social network. A bug could cause an error in a software and could further result to the program's malfunction.

"The programme has been even more successful than we'd anticipated," Facebook wrote on its website. "We've paid out more than US$ 1 million in bounties and have collaborated with researchers from all around the world to stamp out bugs in our products and in our infrastructure."

Facebook's Bug Bounty program rewarded security researchers so that it could encourage the users to aid in keeping the website safe and secure for everyone. Facebook said 329 people from 51 countries received the reward. The researchers ranged from experts, students to a 13 year old kid who happened to be the youngest recipient.

The social media giant said that it earned US$1.81 billion in the second quarter, up 53% from last year. Its active users each day increased by 27% to 699 million in June. Its active users per month became 1.15 billion as of second quarter's end.
