There were media reports saying that teens were deserting Facebook. Teens were Facebook's very first market. It is still a market in which the social media giant has almost completely dominated.

However, it seemed that the site fulfilled its founder's vision. Facebook has now become more of a utility for teens. That is, while they may not be playing in the site more, they were turning to it more often.

In the United States, teens comprise 94% of all users in the site. These teens are active users of Facebook, according to a Pew Internet research. This was good for Facebook because when almost everyone is using the site, switching an entire network of relationships would be too costly.

In addition, with the launch of Instagram, a photosharing service, Facebook has seen a tremendous increase in its monthly active users, up by 600%. According to Kevin Systrom, Instagram now has more than 130 million active monthly users, more than 16 billion photos, and more than 1 billion likes per day.
