Van Leeuwen Ice Cream has partnered with Carnival Cruise Line to launch a unique creation — an ice cream flavor inspired by sunscreen, something far from what you'd normally spot in a freezer aisle.

The playful flavor, revealed on September 8, is part of a new marketing campaign meant to fight off the "End-of-Summer Scaries."

For now, the special flavor is only being offered in limited settings and hasn't been released for purchase.

For now, it's just part of a buzz-building effort between the two brands. If enough people show interest on social media, it may be released for a short time in stores.

"The flavor is designed as a cheeky nod to summer's signature scent," the companies said in a press release.

According to People, Van Leeuwen is known for pushing flavor boundaries, and this unusual treat includes coconut cream, cocoa butter, vanilla extract, and sea salt — all ingredients that remind people of sunscreen, without any actual SPF.

Carnival shared a widely viewed video featuring actor Jonathan Bennett sampling the unusual treat.

He remarked that it carried a sunscreen-like taste but found it surprisingly enjoyable. "It tastes like you're eating vacation."

The clip, along with similar posts, has already drawn more than 69,000 views across social media platforms.

Carnival joined in the fun, writing in one post: "In protest of summer ending, we've decided to eat our sunscreen!"

Many fans were quick to ask where they could get a scoop of their own, USA Today said. One user commented, "Amazing, give me 14 of them right now!" Another said, "Not a want but a neeeeed!"

Some people even started guessing the flavor. "Is it coconut or banana rum vanilla flavored?!" one commenter asked.

While the exact recipe hasn't been shared in full, most testers report a strong vanilla base with hints of coconut and a salty finish.

For now, you won't find the SPF-flavored ice cream in stores or on Carnival cruises. But both brands say they're open to making it available if the online response is strong enough.

Van Leeuwen has made headlines before with unusual flavors, including a recent collaboration with Ed Sheeran on a bright pink, music-inspired ice cream. But the sunscreen flavor may be its boldest idea yet.
