Chinese smartphone makers may be among the most prominent in the world industrial stage, but its users are not the most smartphone crazy according to Google. In the giant tech firm's recent research, only about 47% of Chinese urban residents owned a smartphone, a much lower figure compared to Australia, United States, and other equally competitive markets.

The report, entitled "Our Mobile Planet: China", was conducted by Google in partnership with market research company IPSOS. The survey was answered by 1,000 Chinese internet users between the ages 18 and 64.

According to the research, a majority of Chinese smartphone users were ready to abandon television altogether. Six out of 10 Chinese smartphone users said that smartphones were more important than television.

This data is extremely important to investors who wish to play in the television and visual media market in China. The ballooning smartphone industry could only mean a less profitable television industry, according to analysts.

In the Chinese market, Korean company Samsung dominated Apple. The Asian tech giant managed to ship over 72 million units, while the American company only managed to ship 31.2 million.
