Amazon's top executive, Stefano La Rovere, challenged the common belief that technology displaces jobs, asserting that advancements in robotics and other technologies improve people's roles.
Speaking on CNBC's "Street Signs Europe," La Rovere emphasized that rather than eliminating employment opportunities, these innovations created entirely new job categories.

Amazon boasted that integrating new technologies has boosted over 50,000 positions across its European fulfillment centers, attributing this growth to investments exceeding 700 million euros ($751 million) over the past five years.
La Rovere explained how technology streamlines tasks for employees, reducing physical strain and enabling them to acquire new skills conducive to career advancement.
"Robots and technology help our employees ... by reducing walking distance between assignments, by taking away repetitive motions, or [by] helping them to lift heavy weights."
He also mentioned that technology has recently created more than 700 new job categories. As an example, he pointed to Amazon's robotics and AI division, which focuses on automating processes within the company's expansive fulfillment network.
"Our team is committed to bringing automation to Amazon's vast network of fulfillment centers that are responsible for getting orders packed and ready for delivery to customers," La Rovere added.
La Rovere's insights on technology being a backbone of today's jobs also coincide with a report from VCPost, stating that generative AI is one of the highest-paid jobs, with employees earning six-figure yearly salaries.
