Donald Trump has vowed that he "will never do anything" to cut Social Security or Medicare after President Joe Biden seized on the former president's comment earlier this week, in which Trump allegedly hinted at making cuts related to the entitlement programs to curb the tens of trillions of dollars in national debt.

Donald Trump Addresses Social Security, Medicare Issues After Joe Biden Seized on 'Cutting' Comment

In an interview with Breitbart that was published on Thursday, Donald Trump asserted that he "will never do anything that will jeopardize or hurt Social Security or Medicare."

"We'll have to do it elsewhere. But we're not going to do anything to hurt them," he added.

Trump's remarks seemed to be a response to the attacks made by his rival Joe Biden in recent days following Monday's CNBC interview in which the former president discussed cutting waste and fraud in government spending.

According to Breitbart, Biden distorted Trump's quotes to make it appear that the former president supported cutting entitlement programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid in order to address the national debt.

The president has pounced on Trump's words, posting a clip of his rival's CNBC answer on X and vowing that no cuts to entitlements would be allowed "on my watch."

However, the Trump campaign replied: "If you losers didn't cut his answer short, you would know President Trump was talking about cutting waste."

Donald Trump Pledges to Protect Social Security and Medicare

Donald Trump has repeatedly pledged to protect Social Security and Medicare. In December 2022, Trump told Breitbart: "We're not cutting Social Security... It's very simple. It's a simple answer. We're not cutting Social Security."

He also made clear that he will never cut Social Security in a video from January 2023, saying: "Cut waste, fraud and abuse everywhere that we can find it and there's plenty of it. But do not cut the benefits our seniors worked for and paid for their entire lives. Save Social Security, don't destroy it," ABC News reported.

During a rally in Richmond, Virginia, earlier this month, the former president asserted that it was Biden who would destroy the programs. He told the crowd: "I will not let him destroy Social Security... I will not let him crash Medicare."
