Boeing Backs Away From Zunum Aero, Founders Struggle To Raise Money After Laying Off Staff

Zunum Aero won millions in funding from Boeing and JetBlue and glowing press coverage for its plans to build a 12-seat hybrid-electric airplane that it said would enable affordable short-haul passenger service between smaller cities.

Then the Seattle-area startup ran short of cash late last year, former employees say, bringing operations to a halt. Now the founders may be near a deal to refill the coffers but that would lead to new management.
