Ad-free Facebook at $10 could make big bucks

How would you feel about a paid subscription to Facebook? Twitter's co-founder Biz Stone thinks it's a great idea.

According to him, an ad free business model will work for the web giant. Recently, Facebook suffered a downward spiral in the stock market, and analysts believe the trend won't be stopping in the near future.

Stone said that a premium Facebook account without the advertisements could appeal to those frequent users who find the ads particularly annoying and useless. Some irrelevant ads found on the website include Edward Snowden fan fictions, 'chicken photo services', and sponsored pages of all sorts.

"In general, the ads on Facebook don't seem particularly useful or engaging. However, ads on the service are universally tolerated because that's what makes Facebook free, and free is nice," explained the Twitter creator on his Medium post.

To make the paid subscription more attractive, Stone suggested that Facebook add in a little bit extra. He did not suggest anything in particular, but he said that sweetening the deal could potentially be a hit.

If the company adapts the suggestion, even if only 10% chose to subscribe to a premium account for only US$10, Facebook can potentially earn US$1 billion per month from its 1 billion active users.
