HTC reportedly abandoned the rumored O2 in favor of Perfume as its next flagship phone. The HTC Perfume is said to launch in late 2016 with Android 6.1 Marshmallow on board.

Previous speculations from the rumor said that HTC will name its next flagship phone as HTC O2 or HTC One M10. However, a new leak by reliable tipster @LlabTooFer said that the O2 is "dead" and that the new flagship will be called HTC Perfume.

@LlabTooFer also mentioned in his tweet that the HTC Perfume will come pre-installed with the latest Android 6.1 Marshmallow. It will also have HTC Sense 8.0 interface on top as per a report by International Business Times.

Considering it will pack the latest Android OS, the HTC Perfume might launch in the second half of 2016. Latin Post reported that the next Android OS update could occur at the Google I/O conference in June next year.

HTC could also plan to launch the Perfume at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016. The unveiling could take place on February 21, same as the HTC One M9 launch. It was reported that the launch of new tech devices usually take place in the MWC event.

Rumors surrounding the HTC O2 said that it will be powered with a Snapdragon 820 processor. It was said to pack 4GB of RAM, a 6" QHD display, a powerful 3,500 mAh battery, and 64GB to 128GB expandable internal storage. Camera-wise, the phone is rumored to have a 20.7MP rear camera and a 5MP front shooter. It is not known whether the HTC Perfume will sport these specs and features as per Christian Post.

However, the HTC Perfume is expected to come with the latest specs considering the design trend of current flagships. HTC's present flagship is the One A9 which runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Sense 7.0 UI.
