"Grey's Anatomy" is going for the uncharted path as it will be entering season 12 without the beloved character of Patrick Dempsey, Derek Shepherd. Even Katherine Heigl cannot picture the series without him. Reports about Meredith's health are also swirling online connecting to Ellen Pompeo's possible departure from the show.
Following the heartbreaking death of Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd, it seems another prime character of the show is about to depart from it. Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo, is reportedly going to develop Alzheimer's disease on "Grey' Anatomy" season 12.
According to Christian Today, Ellen Pompeo's contract will expire this season, which perhaps is the reason for pursuing the storyline. Meredith turned out positive after running a test for Alzheimer's during the show's ninth season. It is not yet confirmed if this will be the actress' last season on ABC's hit drama series but creator Shonda Rhimes assured the fans that it won't be the show's last.
Patrick Dempsey's departure from "Grey's Anatomy" did not just shock the fans but also his former co-star Katherine Heigl, who are also anxious about how the show will go on without McDreamy. Heigl shares the fans' sentiments when she told TVLine that she cannot imagine the show without Dempsey's character.
When asked if the news about her return to the show is true, the 36-year-old actress is quick to deny it, saying "sorry" to those who are wishing for the actress to set foot in the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital again. Heigl joined the show in 2005 as Isobel "Izzie" Stevens, a surgical resident at the then Seattle Grace Hospital. She left the show in 2010.
Aside from Meredith's storyline, fans should also watch for April's decision whether she will leave Jackson or not. Sarah Drew, Jackson Avery, and Ellen Pompeo will reprise their roles in the popular ABC drama.
"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 might see Meredith Grey develop Alzheimer's disease following the death of her love, Derek Shepherd. Is this Ellen Pompeo's last season? Now that the show is about to enter a new season without Patrick Dempsey, Katherine Heigle worries for ABC's hit series. But there's still a lot to watch out for when it returns to ABC this fall.
