Gillian Wong has been announced to be appointed in the Associated Press (AP) to report for the world's most populous nation and second-largest economy as the News Director. His appointment has been confirmed on Monday by Ted Anthony, the cooperative's Bangkok-based director of Asia-Pacific news.

Prior to this appointment, Wong has been reported to serve the Wall Street Journal covering technology. The veteran journalist has spent more than a decade covering China and different parts of Asia. She has been assigned to oversee coverage in video, text and photos across the mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong with a base in Beijing, reports The Seattle Times.

Wong enjoys the image for one of the few intrepid and creative journalists in Asia and elsewhere. Aging around 33, she possesses a vast experience in reporting over China since 2008. During her prolonged journalism career, she has served AP's Beijing Bureau covering a range of categories, reports Morning Newstime quoting Ted Anthony.

Wong's journalism profile includes story on Chinese leaders' response over flu epidemic and major earthquakes. She has also focused on Beijing's growing challenges with ethnic unrest in the remote west and environmental protests in the more prosperous east, reports StarTribune.

Her colorful journalism career has been enriched with several whistles blowing coverage. Story on brutal torture suffered by several Communist Party members and former officials by the party's Secretive Internal Anti-graft Detention System has brought her familiarity. She has also covered the high-profile 2013 downfall of the charismatic Chinese leader, Bo Xilai, unearthing the country's biggest political scandal in years.

Wong has been witnessed to Tibetans during their self- immolations protest against Beijing's rule in 2012 that taken place in the western province of Sichuan. She has also reported the fleeing of Uighur's from China in the wake of security crack down for by ethnic riots that killed nearly 200 people.

The charismatic journalist has also been sent to Myanmar, Bangladesh, Malaysia and South Korea to cover both natural and human-made disasters, while serving AP in the previous phase. Her coverages have ranged from the devastating cyclone hitting Myanmar in 2008 to the sinking of the South Korean ferry Sewol in 2014.

Born in Singapore, Wong has first interned at local newspapers while pursuing a bachelor's degree in communication studies at Nanyang Technological University. She has joined the AP's Singapore bureau in 2005 and been transferred to Beijing in 2008 ahead of the Summer Olympics there.
