Tiger Woods Signs New Deal With TaylorMade Golf After His Split With Nike

Tiger Woods has entered a new partnership with TaylorMade Golf following his recent separation with NikeAccording to CNBC, the golf legend has partnered with the Carlsbad-based company to establish a fresh apparel and footwear brand named Sun Day Red.

The collaboration, unveiled during a press event in Pacific Palisades, California, on Monday night, precedes the PGA Tour's Genesis Invitational, an event spearheaded by Woods himself.

Sun Day Red Brand of Tiger Woods

The Sun Day Red brand's name pays homage to Tiger Woods' longstanding tradition of donning red attire on Sundays, a symbol of his competitiveness on the golf course. Its iconic tiger logo is a tribute to Woods' illustrious career, adorned with 15 major championship victories.

According to CNBC, Woods' association with TaylorMade dates back to 2017, marked by an equipment deal that had him playing with the brand's drivers, fairway woods, irons, and wedges. 

Despite receiving offers from various companies, Woods expressed confidence in TaylorMade's ability to deliver quality products tailored to his specifications.

Tiger Woods Partnership With TaylorMade

David Abeles, CEO of TaylorMade, commended Tiger Woods for his approach to product design, serving as a source of inspiration for the company.

Emphasizing the autonomy of the new brand, Abeles assured that Sun Day Red operates independently and has no influence from TaylorMade. The establishment of Sun Day Red entails the creation of a separate brand with its own headquarters and workforce dedicated to its development.  

"His brand stands alone and is independent from TaylorMade," Abeles noted.

According to CNBC, the Sun Day Red brand will be available initially online starting in May. Woods said this was an important transition in his life, and he wanted a brand he was "proud of going forward." For months, speculation on a Woods-TaylorMade partnership has swirled.

The sports equipment manufacturing company reportedly created a new LLC called TaylorMade Lifestyle Ventures last March, and then in June, the firm started filing trademarks, including SUNDAY RED, a logo for SUN DAY RED, a tiger logo, and another tiger logo with the letters S, D, R.

Josh Gerben, a trademark attorney at Gerben Law, told CNBC that TaylorMade likely filed the LLC to provide Woods with equity in the new firm.
