French gas and power group GDF Suez (GSZ.PA) is interested in some of the activities of nuclear firm Areva (AREVA.PA), a spokesman for the company said on Monday.

Toshiba Corp, an engineering firm based in Japan, announced that it would be acquiring a 60% stake in NuGeneration Ltd, the nuclear joint venture of GFD Suez and Iberdrola, Bloomberg reported.

Toshiba Corp is presently still in talks to buy a 50% stake in Britain-based NuGen nuclear consortium although the involved parties have yet to reach a deal, according to Toshiba Chief Executive Officer Hisao Tanaka.

French companies GDF Suez and Total and American private equity firm Hellman & Friedman were planning a public offering for jointly-owned Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT). The IPO could value GTT at up to USD2.4 billion.
