Joseph Gordon-Levitts's film adaptation of 'Sandman' may be taking long, but he reassures fans that it is because they are working extremely hard on it. The Neil Gaiman comic books series is currently being turned into a script by Gordon-Levitt, David Goyer and Gaiman himself, and as director Gordon-Levitt's says they are taking their time to get it right.

In a report by Movie News Guide, Gordon-Levitt admits that turning the 7-years' worth of 'Sandman' comics into a two-hour movie is no easy task. Describing the development of the 'Sandman' film adaptation as slow and steady, he says the material is complex and complicated, and asks for the patience of the audiences who anticipate this film. It will be a 'grand spectacular action movie' sans the movie action clichés of guns and punching.

According to CrossMap, Gordon-Levitt say that turning 'Sandman' into a film rather than a TV series allows the 'Sandman' "characters and ideas get to take shape in a way they never have before" as opposed to a TV series which could potentially stay faithful to the series, but could also pale in comparison to it.

While he admitted it will not be as faithful to the comics, Gordon-Levitt reassures fans that they will be using "whole bunch of specifics straight from the comics" and will still be completely true to what 'Sandman' is: that Dreams and Stories and Magic are actually all the same thing, and that they're real, and that they're powerful."

In an interview with Coming Soon, he remained mum on what volume they are in exactly, or who was being casted as Morpheus. However, Neil Gaiman has favored Tom Hiddleston as his choice as Dream of the Endless. While nothing is confirmed on the casting, Gordon-Levitt promises that the film will be "absolutely mind-blowingly awesome" especially on a visual level.

The 'Sandman' movie is still under development, and as revealed by Gordon-Levitt, in the process of turning it into a script. No release date as of now, and fans hope that not another 5 years will pass without seeing it in the big screen.
