In a recent television appearance, 'The Dark Tower' author Stephen King talked about his most recent award, the National Medal of Arts, the fans of his books and the critics in his early days. No mention of 'The Dark Tower' movie adaptation was made, and the speculation has been that the film was put to hiatus as the film status remains just announced.

In the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, King wore his Medal, conferred by President Barack Obama himself the day before the interview.  Calling it his "bling", King said that the large gold medallion made him "look like Flavor Flav." Colbert joked, befitting the horror master author, that he should sharpen the edges of the medal to make a "nice murder weapon." King, whose works Dark Tower is currently being turned into a film, is a prolific writer. His enormous production of books, novels, short stories amounted to a staggering 6 and a half feet height when stacked.

King also talked about the reception he had when he was starting and now that he has a legendary status. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, King was not afforded the respect he has today, not from the critics back then. When asked where they are now, King answered, "They're dead." Surely, the irony is not lost on Colbert and the audience, who burst out laughing.

King clarified that he was young when he started and his critics were old. As for his huge fanbase, who "screamed like they were stabbed but with pleasure", King commented that the most he has heard is the he "scares the hell" of them with a subsequent request for a hug.

Meanwhile, 'The Dark Tower' movie adaptation remains stuck. The latest confirmed update of 'The Dark Tower' film is Nikolaj Arcel taking over the helm of the movie. The casting stays in the realm of speculation, and the seeming lack of progress prompted the possibility of it being on hiatus. According to Fansided, it may not be a very good idea to adapt 'The Dark Tower' as instances where a movie trumps a book in quality are far and few in between, making 'The Dark Tower' a gamble on its quality.

As of now, 'The Dark Tower' still poised for its big-screen release on January 13, 2017. Nikolaj Arcel is known to try to keep movies faithful to their original stories, boding well for 'The Dark Tower'. However, the casting or script updates seem to be slow, so whether this delays the release or not,  readers can pick up a copy of 'The Dark Tower' while waiting for the movie adaptation.
