Since its announcement, official details about the upcoming The Incredibles 2 have been scarce. However, director Brad Bird recently revealed that the film will be released ahead of Cars 3 and that they are now closer to finishing the script.

Talking to Collider, Bird recently revealed that they are moving forward with the film, and said that contrary to the original plan, The Incredibles sequel will be released ahead of Cars 3. "In terms of the release date, we were originally-Incredibles was supposed to happen after Cars, and our wheels just happened to click a little earlier so they moved us up. Release dates are a little fluid when you're making films so far in advance", Bird said.

As reported by Cinemablend, The Incredibles 2 will be Bird's latest animated feature after his work in Ratatouille in 2009. The director also revealed that they are currently working on the film's script and parts of the storyboard, "I'm probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we're already boarding parts of it", Bird said.

When asked about what to expect in the upcoming film, without spilling anything related to the plot, Bird noted that during the release of the first film, animated features were not as many as the quantity of the features being released nowadays. He said that they will focus in the same are as in the first film which was more about the characters and their relationships.

Nothing has been officially sealed yet regarding the film's release date, however, Den of Geek reported that given the film's current storyboarding stage, it could be released in June 2018 or some time in 2019 if Pixar sticks to its plan of releasing sequels every other year.

Aside from Brad Bird, who is on board to write and direct The Incredibles 2, no official news has been released yet regarding the cast and crew. However, more details are expected to be revealed in the coming months as production makes progress.
