One of the leading global private equity firms, TA Associates has entered into an agreement with its portfolio company SpeedCast Ltd to acquire Pactel International. SpeedCast is a global network and satellite communications company while Pactel is also another satellite communications service provider.

Pactel offers Internet as well as private networking and voice services to a wide range of clients, such as oil and gas operators, telecommunications firms, multinational companies and even governments. Its base of operations is in Sydney, with offices in Perth, Australia and Jakarta, Indonesia after being established back in 1999.

According to Edward F. Sippel, Managing Principal  for Asia Pacific for TA Associates Asia Pacific Ltd, "As a well-established, long-time provider of reliable satellite solutions, Pactel is an ideal fit with our consolidation strategy and growth plans of strengthening SpeedCast's presence in the Asia-Pacific region."

This was seconded by Pierre-Jean Beylier, SpeedCast's CEO, who said, "We are very pleased to complete the acquisition of Pactel. This acquisition further strengthens our position in Australia with new points of presence and infrastructure across the continent, while also offering deep inroads into the expansive Pacific Island market.
