'Boruto: Naruto The Movie' sets a new box office high despite various bootleg copies released online. The newest film in the popular franchise based off the best-selling Japanese manga made over two billion yen since debuting last August 7, 2015.

In an article by The Bitbag, 'Boruto: Naruto The Movie' topped the charts as the number one box office hit in its home country Japan. Several full length copies of the animated film floated around online days after its release aimed at fans too anxious to wait for the official debut in the United States and Canada.

According to Anime News Network, the newest Naruto movie earned a whopping total of 2.02 billion yen since its cinematic debut last August 7 in Japan making it the top grossing film in the franchise to date. It managed to exceed sales from the preceding film 'The Last: Naruto the Movie' that amassed 2 billion yen. Original manga creator Masahi Kishimoto worked as the chief production supervisor for the big-screen adaptation.

The film's plot follows the adventures of new generation characters - specifically Naruto Uzumaki's son Boruto. The rebellious boy, full of disdain for Naruto's lack of attention, seeks to train under his father's long-time friend and rival Sasuke Uchiha in hopes of one day proving his power and worth. Boruto teams up with Sasuke's daughter Sarada as well as the mysterious Mistuki to do battle against new antagonists.

It was reported that the first two million movie goers for 'Boruto: Naruto The Movie' received special edition booklets containing a short manga episode entitled 'The Day When Naruto Became A Hokage' as well as a fully colored edition of the comics' 700th episode, according to iDigital Times. It remains unconfirmed whether North American audiences would receive the same limited collectibles during its debut across selected theaters in the west.

'Boruto: Naruto the Movie' will debut North American territories on October 10, 2015. It is the 11th film in the highly popular franchise and tells the story of the children of the original series' protagonists. It is Hiroyuki Yamashita's directorial debut and stars voice actors Yuuko Sanpei, Noriaki Sugiyama, Junko Takeuchi and Kokoro Kikuchi.
