The former US Army General who at the height of his career was the Central Intelligence Agency chief, David Petraeus has recently been engaged by Kohlberg, Kravis and Roberts & Co LP, the private equity firm.

KKR is best known for its buyout activities, hopes that the experience of Petraeus and contacts would help the firm to land deals all over the world, according to anonymous sources familiar with the move. The former general would become the chairman of a new 'institute' within the firm which would focus on macroeconomic forecasting, communications, public policy as well as advisory on possible investments to be done in emerging markets.

The 60 year old former general easily becomes one of the most recognizable faces in the buyout firm. He has lead forces into Iraq and Afghanistan and is one of the more well-travelled military leaders of the country with ties to military, economic and political leaderships worldwide. Many analysts believe that Petraeus' presence would help leverage the firm in foreign countries where the firm has little experience with as well as having an expert evaluate risks and rewards for the investments to be made.

He resigned as CIA Director after the FBI discovered an extramarital affair with his biographer, Paula Brodwell. The affair was uncovered after an investigation into Broadwell's alleged threats to another women were reported.
