With more and more consumers opting for mobile devices such as tablets and phones, online companies such as Facebook, Google and other companies are providing more and more options for its clients on the go.

This is where the bidding war for Waze comes to fore. Waze is a map software provider for mobile devices. Two of the largest online companies, namely search engine provider Google and social networking site are gearing up for a bidding war for the start up firm.

Facebook has initiated negotiations with Waze and the number being discussed is in US$1 billion. Google, on the other hand have come forward with a possible deal for Waze, after the discussions between Facebook and Waze had been made public.

Google has previously undertaken mapping tools on its website and may adopt the technology of Waze as it adds more social networking features to its software. The main issue though would be antitrust regulations as Google Maps, one of the current features of the search engine, may need to be determined if it is complementary rather than discriminatory techology.
