A new round of witch-hunting is set to take place in the upcoming Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2. A new director has been hired for the film while rumor mill suggests that Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton might come back to reprise their roles.

As reported by Deadline, after grossing more than $200 million worldwide from its $50 million budget, Paramount opted to push for a sequel to the 2013 flick, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. In fact, a director has been chosen to helm the film, in the person of Bruno Aveillan.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 will be Aveillan's feature directorial debut after his award-winning performance as a director for commercials such as  Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Swarovski, Crystals, and Audi. According to Screen Crush, the original film's director and writer, Tommy Wirkola turned in the script last fall but is not coming back to direct the sequel.

No updates have been released regarding the sequel's cast yet, however, Collider cited reports that the film will focus on the new adventures that both Hansel and Gretel are set to face, thus, it might reportedly see the return of both Renner, and Arterton.

The upcoming film's plot is still under wraps, but IMDb stated that the plot will center on Hansel and Gretel's life after killing the dark evil witch. The witch-hunting siblings are said to face another dark force who will remind them that they're not safe.

Will Ferrell, Kevin Messick,  and Adam McKay are set to come back to produce the upcoming Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 under Gary Sanchez Productions. While Beau Flynn is also set to produce the film under FlynnPictureCo. No release date has been announced yet but more details about the upcoming movie are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
