'Prometheus 2' director Ridley Scott pushed his film's release ahead of Neill Blomkamp's 'Alien 5' although he is still returning to the first science-fiction franchise as producer.

According to Geek.com, Scott insisted on having his sequel released first before the follow-up to 'Alien'. This may seem like unfortunate news to fans of the science-fiction franchise started by Scott himself back in 1979 but the delay will hopefully give Blomkamp a chance to work around returning star Sigourney Weaver's busy schedule on an 'Avatar' sequel. This will also give him more time to develop a good working script. It was also reported that 20^th Century Fox is backing Scott up with his decision since he is also producing 'Alien 5'.

The storyline of 'Prometheus' focused on events before 'Alien' and a cross-over between the two films is highly unlikely unless some time traveling will take place. It was reported that the first film didn't exactly earn as much fans as Scott's classic project but it did do well in the box office upon release giving him a reason to direct a second one that is probably the beginning of a planned franchise.

Scott's latest science-fiction work is on 'The Martian' starring Matt Damon, as reported by Collider. It is a book adaptation that tells the story of an astronaut stranded on the seemingly uninhabited landscape of Mars after an aborted mission that led his fellow scientists to leave him alone on the planet and assume his death.

Scott will, however, return to Blomkamp's project not as a director but as a producer. This may be why he wanted 'Prometheus 2' to come out first so he can pursue production roles afterwards. Blomkamp is said to be currently working on the script for the 'Alien' sequel. It is unconfirmed whether Scott has begun production yet on his own film.

An article on Slash Film did confirm that filming for the sequel is set to begin on January 2016 even though there is no release date announced yet. Earlier reports stated that there had been some conflict between Scott's and Blomkamp's versions and the two are closely working together to prevent any overlaps or errors.

'Prometheus 2' is the science-fiction thriller follow-up to the 2012 film of the same name. The first film began as a fifth installment to the popular 'Alien' franchise but moved ahead to become an independent movie that gained its own following. Its plot precedes the timeline of 'Alien' and is not connected to it in any way.
