Reports of some PS4 users encountering an annoyoing Error Code: CE-37704-1 have recently been going around the internet without a permanent fix to the problem. Users are forced to make do with temporary solutions since Sony has yet to address this annoying issue.

Reports of the encountered error come from Reddit and Twitter users, according to a post from GamerTime UK. The error informs users that their hard drive is full, requesting them to free up at least 134.3MB on the drive even if the drive is not actually full and have gigabytes worth of free space. The error is suspected to stem from old, deleted files that may still be cached in a ghost memory somewhere in the drive.

While a permanent fix has yet to be developed and released by Sony, PlayStation Support recommends deleting larger file or game updates then trying again. Digitally purchased and downloaded PS4 games are fortunately kept in cloud storage for future recovery. Another reported fix is rebuilding the PS4 database, which is an option that can be selected in PS4 SafeMode. While this can take a long time, it is a definite safe option to fix errors in the allocated drive. Going into PS4 SafeMode and Rebuilding Database can be achieved in a few easy steps:

  • Completely turn off PS4.
  • Plug in controller to USB port.
  • Press and hold PS4 power button and wait for the second beep.
  • PS4 is now in SafeMode.
  • Choose the option to Rebuild Database.

Despite recent system issues causing errors to the console, PS4 has remained to be the best-selling eighth generation console in the US for the past three months. The good news was credited to the Batman: Arkham Knight PS4 Bundle being a top seller, according to GameSpot's exclusive statement from Sony.

System errors are a common occurence, and console systems are no exception. The good news would hopefully provide a window for Sony to address the recent system errors plaguing their main supporters.
