‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’ Updates: Milla Jovovich returns as Alice, Ali Carter stars opposite; September filming begins in South Africa
'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter' stars Milla Jovovich to reprise her role as the iconic Alice with Ali Larter joining in to return as Claire Redfield. September filming is also set to begin in South Africa.
According to Screen Rant, the action queen herself Milla Jovovich posted a photo on her Instagram account revealing what looked to be developments for the upcoming film. It was captioned, "Well, the moment so many of you have been waiting for is finally here where I can tell you that it's zombie killing season for the Jovovich-Anderson clan! Here I am getting my face cast made for "resident evil: the final chapter"!! I leave to South Africa tomorrow to start prepping for the movie!#residentevilmovie #ladiary"
Jovovich is set to reprise her role as Alice, an ex-employee of the corrupt pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation endowed with superhuman abilities after being exposed by the fatal T-virus during an experiment conducted by the company. She is out to fight against the Red Queen to protect humanity from total annihilation.
In an article by Deadline, actress Ali Larter is geared up to star alongside Jovovich and return as Claire Redfield in the latest film in the successful zombie franchise. Her character was last seen on 2007's 'Resident Evil: Extinction' and 2010's 'Resident Evil: Afterlife'. Claire is also based off the Capcom videogames as Chris Redfield's sister and is a protagonist herself in select games in the series such as 'Resident Evil 2' and 'Resident Evil Code: Veronica'.
Larter's popular character is a strong-willed zombie apocalypse survivor turned vigilante and a member of the fictional non-government human rights organization TerraSave. Together with her colleagues, they provide medical aid and protection from bioterrorism.
According to Empire Online, the upcoming film's plot will pick up following the events of its predecessor 'Resident Evil: Retribution' debuted last 2012. Principal filming will begin in September in South Africa after being pushed back to accommodate Jovovich's second pregnancy with spouse Paul W.S. Anderson, director of most of the 'Resident Evil' cinematic adaptations. It seems as though the sixth and final film in the science-fiction, post-apocalyptic horror franchise will finally be set in motion.
'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter' is set to be released on September 2, 2016 and is currently in pre-production. It is the sixth installment of the 'Resident Evil' film series and said to be the last one. It was initially planned to premiere on September 12, 2014 but was moved due to script and casting considerations.
