It is beyond debate that the Samsung Galaxy S3 is in fact getting older and is being left behind by its competitors and younger siblings. However, this does not mean Samsung Galaxy S3 will go down without giving a good fight, considering that S3 owners can still update their OS to work like Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Since the Galaxy S3 is not compatible for any software update due to its old version operating system, Android now offers the Galaxy S3 users to update their operating system that will work like Android's 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system. Galaxy S3 users should get a custom ROM in their devices that will update their old OS to work like the 5.1.1 Lollipop, according to MasterHerald.

For those who are unfamiliar with custom ROM, before doing anything and going any further to modify or tweak this component of the phone is a bit tricky and for an untrained individual, doing custom ROM might get someone lost in the maze. So it is strongly advised to get a professional to do the custom ROMing on anyone's phone, just to be on the safe side, because if this tweaking is done the wrong way, the phone will be worthless.

Going back, a standard phone comes with a stock ROM upon purchase, the stock ROM comes with a kernel, which is basically the brain of the ROM that makes the applications, services, etc. run. Now, the question is, how does a stock ROM becomes a custom ROM? It's very simple.

Since Android is an open-source software, any developer/modifyier, or even yourself if you understand and know how it works, the software or operating system are free to modify the stock ROM into custom ROMs. As a result, the custom ROM runs more efficiently and effectively than the stock ROM, at some point, the custom ROMs outperforms the more mainstream operating systems.

In case you are not aware, the Samsung Galaxy S3 runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system and made its debut in 2012 and according to Expertviews, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has quickly established itself as the market leader for Android flagship handsets when it was officially released 3 years ago. The phone might be considered as old but due to its durability and efficiency, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is still relevant in the market today.

Although the Samsung Galaxy S3 might be considered old, it is still available in the market and with the custom ROM update together with its price cut, it would not be a surprise if the S3 will be on the charts once again.
