Melissa McCarthy's new movie, Spy is changing the way the world looks into the world of espionage. The action comedy film soared high in ticket sales when it opened this week in the overseas box office.

The Paul Feig film opened at $4.6 million when it premiered in South Korea. The action comedy would also rake in $3.6 million in Australia. The action comedy also stars Jude Law, Jason Statham and Rose Byrne.

Melissa McCarthy plays Susan Cooper, an underappreciated CIA analyst who is resigned to desk work despite the fact that she has received training. She finds that she has to step up to the plate when both her partner Bradley Fine (Law) and rival top agent Rick Ford (Statham) are compromised. While she finds that she is off to a rocky start at first, she soon discovers that she has what it takes to face up to the villanous Raina Boynov (Byrne).

The "Bridesmaids" actress was initially not considered for the role of Susan Cooper, as the actress had a busy production schedule with the CBS TV series, Mike and Molly. McCarthy had previously worked on 2013's "The Heat".

However, McCarthy would insist on the role as the CIA agent in Spy, and her persistence would eventually pay off.

"I wouldn't let him off the topic," McCarthy said. "The more he told me, the more I needed to know what happened next. Finally, by the end of dinner I was like, 'I need to read it.' The next morning I called him and begged to play her."

McCarthy didn't have to ask twice as Feig would give her the role without batting an eyelash.

"The minute she said she wanted to do it, it was a done deal." said Feig.

Spy opens in theaters on June 5.
