Suicide Squad set photos expose nasty mutant super-soldiers; Are they a product of the Enchantress, or the film's villain?

Details about Suicide Squad have been pouring out ever since the DC Comics adaptation started filming- cast photos, costume info, plenty of new updates on Jared Leto's Joker (and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje's Killer Croc). But what DC fans don't know is the film's plot- although the latest set photos might just hint at what the Suicide Squad is up against in their first feature film.

A new batch of set photos shows off some very freaky stuff- soldiers with gross greyish-black mutated faces. It almost looks like they've sprouted fifty new eyeballs (or been drenched in some kind of very gross black sludge). It's possible that this horrible affliction is the product of a curse from the Enchantress (that's what the rumors are saying so far, at least). But could this be some kind of virus the Suicide Squad is fighting to stop (or collect, and bring back a sample for Amanda Waller?).

Either way, it offers a new supernatural element to the film- and potentially some superpowered villains to really test the Squad's mettle (there's a reason Waller would need to use this many supervillains for a single mission, after all). Other set photos have also involved a plane crashing into the middle of what appears to be Gotham City, the Joker driving up in a flashy magenta sports car and getting into a fight with Harley Quinn, Deadshot carrying Harley in some kind of hero pose (is this real, or just something Harley's fantasizing about? Who knows...) and plenty of shots of the whole crew together.

Just like the comics, the Suicide Squad film will follow Task Force X (aka the Suicide Squad) on a secret black-ops mission that requires the use of expendable soldiers. The film's rumored to have a cameo from the DC Universe's new Batman (played by Ben Affleck)- look for him and a troop of mutant supersoldiers on August 5, 2016.
