"Outlander" is still on its first season, but the cast and crew of the sci-fi romance series are already gearing up for season two after the hit success of the Starz series. Fans were left wondering, will the series based on Diana Gabaldon's book introduce new characters on season two?

"Outlander" became a huge success following the show's premiere in UK on Amazon Prime. The show is already gearing up for season two, even with the show still airing its first season in all parts of the world. Scotland Now reported that the cast and crew of the Starz hit series has already begun filming for season two on Thursday, May 7.

Actor Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser on the sci-fi time traveller series, expressed his excitement over his reprisal of his role for season two. The actor tweeted: "Sun is shining on first day of #DIA #OutlanderSeason2."

"Outlander" follows the story based on Diana Gabaldon's book series and season two will take on her second book from the series titled, "Dragonfly in Amber." According to Hypable, the showrunners decided to delay the start of filming for season two in order to give their cast enough time to take a break from the whirlwind success that they received from season one. Executive producer Ron Moore also revealed to the outlet that they will be filming most of the scenes in Scotland, but they will also shoot a couple of scenes in Prague to double as 18th century Paris.

Meanwhile, fans were left wondering if "Outlander" season two will introduce new characters, following Gabaldon's book, including some of their favorites, Brianna, young Fergus, adult Roger, Lord John Grey and Bonnie Prince Charlie. The outlet noted that new cast members could possibly be announced during the San Diego Comic Con on July 9 - 12, 2015; citing that the network is seemingly holding a grand event including an all-expense paid trip for the contest winner.
