When Homeland Season 5 returns on air in October 2015, audiences should be ready to witness upheavals on the show that had Claire Danes' character Carrie Mathison end season 4 as a disillusioned intelligence officer.

The changes in store for Carrie were revealed to media before Homeland took to a public panel discussion at PaleyFest 2015 in early March, where the Showtime series was presented to television audiences.

Homeland co-creator Alex Gansa and Executive Producer Meredith Stiehm spoke to reporters about bringing the new season to a new location in Berlin, Germany where Danes' character seeks atonement for her "sins" during the United States' war on terror in the last season.

The plot would be set some 2-3 years after the setting of the season 4 Finale.

Carrie's disappointment with the CIA inevitably results in her getting out of the agency and living a new life away from the Middle East.

Carrie's relationship with her mentor Saul Berenson, played by Mandy Patinkin, will turn sour.

The producers of Homeland, however, were quiet about the status of Carrie's explosive relations with Rupert Friend's character Peter Quinn.

But they were quick to add that grown up Carrie will now embrace motherhood in season 5 of Homeland after being an absentee mother in season 4.

Gansa noted that as the team of writers develop the storylines of each Homeland episode, they are aware of real-life events in the Middle East, Syria, and the Ukraine and would therefore be telling stories of national security from Europe.

Homeland's general plot revolves around bipolar CIA officer Carrie whose volatile personality has her risking her life and sanity in every episode. The emotional thriller sets the agent's world against the backdrop of national security stakes.

Homeland also stars Damian Lewis as Nicholas Brody, the marine sergeant who returns home to America after 8 years in captivity and who Carrie suspects has turned terrorist.

Homeland Season 5 starts filming the Showtime series in May.
