Katy Perry has a reason for keeping her relationship with Diplo away from public scrutiny. Reports claim that she is determined to make things work between her and the DJ.

The songstress has been in an on-and-off relationship Diplo since April 2014. Just recently, news broke that Diplo's ex Kathryn Lockhart gave birth to their second child, and this event allegedly has caused a serious rift on the couple.

Katy separated from British comedian Russell Brand in December 2011 after 14 months of marriage. When her divorce from Russell was finalised in 2012, she began dating John Mayer, with their romance ending in early 2014, wrote Noise 11.

"Diplo is still a part of her life, but she is keeping it very, very private," a source tells HollywoodLife.

She has already seen it happen in her previous relationships and she wants to make sure that the one she has with Diplo will not fall into the same pit.

"After Russell and John, she doesn't want to have the same media storm she had with them because that took a toll on those relationships and really were a main reason for the trouble. They are still involved but she is being very closed off on this because she wants it to work."

Regarding Diplo's son Lazer, another report surfaced that Katy is helping out little Lazer, which a source denied.

"She doesn't, but they want it that way. She has met Lazer, but is involved in zero decision making with the child."

Meanwhile, Katy wants her Super Bowl halftime performance to be epic, and she wants Taylor Swift to do it for her.

"She wants to make a statement with her performance and show that she is the biggest female act in the world and she wants to show that to everyone including Taylor, who she has a feud with. In Katy's eyes, no one can compete on her level," a source told HollywoodLife
