That "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas 2" rumor you've been hearing about (or probably hearing about anyway- it's all over the Internet).

Yeah. Totally a hoax.

Sorry about that.

The news first blew up from a piece in Grand Times, which claimed to show off a press release for a brand new "Grand Theft Auto" installment- a sequel to the wildly popular "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," widely considered to be one of the best (if not the best) "Grand Theft Auto" games.

The full "press release" can be read at Grand Times, but here's a clip of it, to see just what set the Internet ablaze this week.

"Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas 2 has finally been confirmed this week after Rockstar made the surprising announcement at the Playstation Experience event in Las Vegas, the day after The Game Awards. The game will take place in 1999, 7 years after the events of San Andreas. CJ will return as the main character, again being voiced by Young Maylay.

During a brief gameplay demonstration shown to a select few journalists at the event, single player mode was shown off on the Playstation 4 console. Several elements that players will be making a return."

Fake or not, it does sound pretty convincing, doesn't it? The press release also claimed popular names that would be voicing characters in the game, including "Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Ice Cube, and actors such as Kevin Hart, Larenz Tate, and Mike Epps."

Unfortunately for Grand Times and for "GTA" fans that were drooling all over themselves to play as CJ once again, the smallest bit of investigation proved this whole thing was a giant sham, as reported in the Huffington Post. No "San Andreas 2." No older CJ. No Kevin Hart.

Making matters worse was the photo at the top of the Grand Times, a fairly realistic-looking render of CJ with modern-day graphics potential. So convincing was the photo that it was retweeted nearly 3,000 times on Twitter.

Check back soon for the latest news on any "GTA" sequels that are actually real.
