The richest man in the poorest continent Africa

Have you ever heard of the richest man in Africa? Compared to Bill Gates or Warren Buffett, construction tycoon and the richest man in Africa, Aliko Dangote, is not that well known.

But he is the household name in Nigeria. According to a Forbes magazine in late 2011, his wealth was estimated at $10.1 billion. He opened the largest cement factory in Africa, and also operates sugar refining, salt processing, etc.

Nigeria is a very poor country. According to Nigeria government’s statistics, 61% of the population are in absolute poverty. In this atmosphere, Dangote stands out.

Not like developed countries, this wealthiest man gained profit from manufacturing sector. His cement factory is so huge that it accounts 1/3 of values of Nigeria’s stock exchange. His sugar refiner is the world’s third largest.
