The former NSA contractor was interviewed by Christopher Soghoian, the head technologist of the American Civil Liberties Union. The interview would tackle the controversial NSA data and privacy that Snowden leaked last year. The audience was also allowed to ask Snowden their questions.

The webcast features a live feed hosted by the Texas Tribune.

Meanwhile, Representative Mike Pompeo did not want Snowden on South by Southwest. In an open letter, the Kansas Republican wrote, “Mr. Snowden’s appearance would stamp the imprimatur of your fine organization on a man who ill deserves such accolades. Rewarding Mr. Snowden’s behavior in this way encourages the very lawlessness he exhibited.” Referring to the invitation, Rep. Pompeo said, “I strongly urge you to withdraw this invitation.”

Hashtag #asksnowden received a trending applause from Twitter users.
