Canada-based startup Sciencescape has just secured $2.5 million in a funding round. According to co-founder Sam Molyneux, the company is considering extending the round to $3 million since it was oversubscribed, wrote TechCrunch.

Molyneux also disclosed a new partnership with global educational publishing giant Elsevier. The latter bought Sciencescape competitor Mendeley last year. Through this deal, Sciencescape hopes to become a social link for academics, students, and researchers for the advancement of education, the report said.

Sciencescape's platform creates a series of curated research content that users can easily peruse and follow. Molyneux said the process of going through tons of academic research and journals is made more manageable through the platform, the report explained.

The team-up with Elsevier gives the Canadian firm direct access to 11 million full-text articles. This is good news to the users of the platform since they don't have to subscribe to any outside journals to access that content, TechCrunch reported.
