Public transportation data app Moovit has raised $28 million from funding round led by Sequoia. Gemini Israel Ventures and BRM Group also participated in the said round, according to VentureBeat.

Moovit consolidates public transport data with community input to give commuters a real-time perspective of the best route for their trip. Using the app, consumers can get access to trip planning tools, departure and arrival information, point-to-point navigation of buses, light rails, ferries, trains, subways, and more. The app basically helps commuters avoid delays and share the best route with their friends, the report detailed.

The company will use the new funding to improve its existing service. Moovit is also planning to tap new markets, the report added.

Moovit was founed in 2011 by Roy Bick, Yaron Evron, and Nir Erez. The company was publicly launched late 2012. Based in Israel, the public transit app is not active in 100 cities worldwide, VentureBeat reported.
