Essilor announces acquisition of Canadian eyewear firm Suntech Optics

French ophthalmic lenses company Essilor International has announced the acquisition of Canada's eyewear distributor Suntech Optics Inc. This was according to a press release report published by 4-Traders.

Suntech Optics is a Vancouver-based company that markets a range of prescription and non-prescription sunglasses. The firm distributes these products to over 2,800 retail outlets in Canada. The firm also owns and distributes Ryders Eyewear through its Bugaboos subsidiary. Ryders Eyewear is a brand of Canadian performance sunglasses that is well known among mountain bikers, the press release said.

Through the deal, Suntech will be able to leverage Essilor's technological expertise to improve its portfolio of prescription and non-prescription reading glasses and sunglasses, the press release on 4-Traders read.

Brent Martin, Suntech's Chief Executive Officer, said, "With the deep pool of talent and resources of FGX and Essilor, we are now in a strong position to take these brands global more quickly. What sealed the deal for me is the FGX/Essilor commitment to making a difference in the world."
