Dairy Australia's new chair said the recent competition in acquire milk processing firms is a good thing. This was according to a report published by ABC.

Dairy farmer Geoff Akers said the surge in takeover bids for dairy firms is a sign of change and consolidation in the industry. He also said this is the change they have been waiting for since the milk market was deregulated. In addition, Akers believes that having a farmer in the dairy research and development body is important, the report stated.

Akers said, "I think having a dairy farmer as the chair of Dairy Australia means that when someone gets up and speaks for the organisation, they're paying the levy, they understand the farmer perspective and they're very close to the grassroots. I think that is an important aspect of the role."

Mr Akers is a dairy farmer from Tallygaroopna, an area near Shepparton in Victoria. He was appointed as the chairman of Dairy Australia during the organization's annual general meeting, ABC reported.
