Apple Inc. finally announced its purchase of PrimeSense, an Israeli-based 3D sensor firm. Now everyone wants to know why?

PrimeSense, potentially the best 3D sensor company available in the market, can continue to keep the hype around the Apple products. It also sent a clear message that Apple still has a vision for a future other than developing and refining what Steve P. Jobs brought to the world.

Sensors lets our devices understand us at a personal level. They allow machines to learn the context of a situation. Each year, sensors grow smaller in size and it can become a prime asset to almost everything from security to entertainment, from analytics to health.

Apple, who is also planning for a stonger living room presence, can definitely make new waves once PrimeSense gets integrated with Apple TV. Now imagine a TV that understands you, who knows which programs entertain you by merely checking your heartbeat. It would then be able to constantly customize contents on the fly. Such technology could revolutionize entertainment, but more importantly, bring Apple to  the retail shelf, where it has no market share.

We can continue to speculate on and on or we can ask ourselves, if Apple now has a voice via Siri and eyes through PrimeSense, what could the future hold?

Exciting times ahead for Apple.
