The Utah-based TV discovery startup i.TV had recently acquired GetGlue as a second-screen app mashup, according to a report by TechCrunch. GetGlue was one of the pioneers of social TV that helped drive mobile users to tune in to various TV shows using its app. It also helped users share the show they are currently watching, check into TV shows, and influence other users to watch the same thing, said the TechCrunch report.

Video discovery company i.TV had been in operation since its launch in 2008. I.TV services aimed to help mobile and tablet users find interesting TV or streaming content. It had also launched some versions of apps that provided internet browsing and video streaming options. The apps would also have a feature that would function as a remote control for TV channel navigations, TechCrunch said.

The report also stated that it was still unclear how i.TV will use GetGlue or if there will be new people joining the company. No financial details were also mentioned regarding the acquisition.
