Gaming startup Seriously raised USD 2.35 million in its seed round. Los Angeles-based Upfront Ventures and Denmark-based Sunstone Capital led the round. The new company said it would soon be announcing its initial set of workers. It plans to launch its games in 2014.

The founders of Seriously were former executives of Rovio, the maker of Angry Birds. Co-Founder Petri Järvilehto worked as the Executive Vice President of Games of Rovio. He now heads game development at Seriously and will be based in Helsinki. Meanwhile, Co-Founder Andrew Stalbow was the Executive Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at Rovio. He will be based in Los Angeles.

Stalbow told TechCrunch, "We see Helsinki as the mobile gaming capital of the world and think that's a great place to build a studio. Los Angeles is the entertainment capital of the world and the traditional business here is challenged quite a bit." He added Seriously intended to create casual games and capitalize on them to build lasting brands.
