Startup company TheSkimm raised USD1.1 million in seed funding to build a newsletter designed for professionals. The round was led by Homebrew, RRE Ventures, and Lady Gaga's manager Troy Carter.

TheSkimm is a startup founded by former NBC journalists Carly Zakin and Danielle Weisberg that produces a daily newsletter for busy professionals. The two women converted their apartment into an office for their newsletter project. Although its primary target audience are women, it also has a place for male followers. In recent months, it has reached 100,000 readers and has reached a 45% email open rate.

On Monday, TheSkimm received the USD1.1 million seed fund in addition to the startup that was raised from an angel round last year.

Zakin and Weiberg plan to use the new fund to hire engineers, journalists, and designers for the newsletter. TheSkimm will continue to reach out to its target audience and enrich the professional lives of busy working women.
