The Fukushima power plant had no further damaged by the earthquake which hit the country's east coast early Saturday. The quake, which triggered a small tsunami, also did not cause radiation levels to rise at the plant. The Tokyo Electric Power Co or Tepco said workers were evacuated after the tremors as a precautionary measure. The quake struck 230 miles out to the sea, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency, but was felt as far as 230 km away in Tokyo.

Three reactors of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station suffered meltdowns in the 2011 earthquake and tsunami that hit the island nation. The plant has continued to leak radioactive water from the damage. In September, the Japanese government stepped in to help Tepco. It allocated JPY 470 billion to build an ice wall around the plant to stop the radioactive leaks. By using coolant pipes, the groundwater would be prevented from getting in contact with radioactive water.
