UK-based retailer John Lewis told The Telegraph that Apple's iPad Mini would be the bestselling tablet this Christmas season. John Lewis said one iPad Mini would be sold every 15 seconds since clients would be upgrading their old models. Together with the iPad Mini, the Samsung Tab 3 and Google Nexus tablet would also become bestsellers, according to the retailer.

John Lewis also said 2013 would be the year of the big tablet upgrade, adding that sales of Samsung and Google's tablet computers had doubled in the past year.

In the first quarter of this year, data analysis firm Gartner revealed that the iPad Mini made up 60% of the first quarter sales of Apple's iOS. The firm said this was due to customers looking for budget tablets rather than premium tablets.

Gartner Research Director Ranjit Atwal said, "The increased availability of lower priced basic tablets, plus the value add shifting to software rather than hardware will result in the lifetimes of premium tablets extending as they remain active in the household for longer."
