By 2013, the United States would become the top producer of petroleum and natural gas. The country would pass the production of Russia and Saudi Arabia, according to a recent report by the US Energy Information Administration.

According to the EIA report, the total petroleum and natural gas production in energy content terms for the US and Russia was almost 50% between petroleum and natural gas. Saudi Arabia on the other hand heavily slanted for petroleum.

US petroleum production had risen to 7 quadrillion BTUs since 2008, with dramatic growth found in both Texaa and North Dakota. The report added, "Natural gas production has increased by 3 quadrillion BTUs over the same period, with much of its growth coming from the eastern United States."

Russian and Saudi Arabian production has increased by only 1 quadrillion BTUs in the last five years, the report said. While 2011 and 2012 saw production for the US and Russia to be at 1 quadrilion BTUs each, by 2013, the numbers diverge with the US outproducing Russia by nearly 5 quadrillion BTUs.
